• Find out why your favourite jumper shrank in the wash, how trends go from catwalk to high street and why people go to the trouble of adornment in the first place at Fashion Works, Discovery Museum, Newcastle upon Tyne. 2pm-5pm. Free. Call 0191 232 6789.

• Enjoy an eclectic summer music festival in Calder Holmes Park, Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire. The programme includes cajun, jazz, blues and a concert pianist - and, as the acts change every 20 or 40 minutes, no one has to wait long for their favourite. Noon- 8pm. Free. Call 07720 884372.

• Nearly 50 playbuses will converge on Hengrove Park, Bristol, to take part in the Big Bus Bash. Children will be able to throw themselves into paint spinning, drama and circus workshops, costume making and more than 200 other activities in the company of the buses' playleaders. 9.30am-5.30pm. • A corner of Surrey becomes Little Italy today as Brooklands Museum, Weybridge, holds an Italian Festival, with an Italian food fair and wine tasting. Big and little children will love the display of 800 Italian cars from Ferrari to Fiat. 10am-5pm. Adults £7, children £5. Call 01932 857381.

The Three Musketeers come to Heigham Park, Norwich, as part of the city's Theatre in the Parks Festival. The performance draws on puppetry, live music and audience participation - you have been warned. 4pm. Free.

• The Greenwich and Docklands International Festival in London ends tonight with the opening of the Arsenal Gardens, Woolwich. An aerial acrobatics troupe with a fondness for Seventies costumes and disco music and a massive fireworks display will mark the event. 8.30pm. Free.

• A doorbell made from wine glasses and a self-lighting lampshade were two of the innovations inflicted on Glaswegian householders by Droog Design. Find out from their video diaries how they got on with the wacky designs as well as trying them out yourself in a household setting at The Lighthouse, Mitchell Lane, Glasgow. • Help make a contribution to safety at sea without getting your feet wet at The Blessing of the Boats, Harbourside, Whitby, Yorkshire. The Bishop of Whitby blesses the fishing fleet and pleasure craft in this popular old custom from 2.30pm. Free. Call 01947 602674.

• Stilt walkers, storytellers, magicians and puppeteers will be helping to make the grand finale of Children's Festival 2000 at the Museum of Welsh Life, Cardiff. The packed and varied programme runs from 10am-5pm. Adults £5.50, children free. Call 02920 573500.

• Find out why diets in Victorian times - before the microwave and the freezer - were much healthier than today's as recipes, secrets and ingredients from the nineteenth century are explained by a fully costumed chef as part of the Eat, Drink and Be Merry exhibition at Kenwood House, Hampstead Lane, London. 10am-6pm.
