There has been good skiing at altitude following fresh snow throughout the Alps, but the lower slopes are hard in the morning and slushy in the afternoon. North America is faring better, with great skiing in every resort. Low temperatures have kept the snow crisp.
Austria
Snow has been falling on the upper slopes of Kitzbuhel (***) but raining lower down. The snow is wet and heavy in Zell am See (**). In neighbouring Kaprun (***) the high-altitude glacier is in better condition although very busy.
France
In Alpe d'Huez (***) the upper levels have been brilliant but the lower slopes are heavy going. Similar conditions in Avoriaz (***).
Switzerland
Good skiing on the upper slopes of the Jungfrau area with the north-facing slopes of Murren (***) holding their snow very well. The glacial slopes of Saas Fee (****) have fresh snow.
Italy
Despite very few snowfalls this year, there is still some good skiing to be found. Cervinia (***) received a dusting this week and now that visibility has improved, the upper slopes are excellent. Conditions are deteriorating in Cortina (**) with the lower slopes becoming slushy.
Andorra
The snow is hard packed in Soldeu (***) but the slopes are holding up well for this time of the year.
US
A fresh dusting has topped up the snow base and rejuvenated the slopes in Aspen (****) and Breckenridge (****). Temperatures in Killington (***) have finally dropped, bringing snow and firmer on-piste conditions.
Canada
Fresh snow has also been falling in Banff (****) which has restricted visibility at times. In Sun Peaks (*****) skiers are enjoying the legendary light champagne powder. Temperatures are very low.
