Seaside snapshot: North Norfolk

Our tour of English resorts concludes in East Anglia.

Why go? The coastline between Hunstanton and Cromer Pier (around 47 miles) is among the most unspoilt and protected in the country. It's great for birdwatching, cycling or just chilling on the sandy beaches beneath big skies.

Best stretch of beach: Holkham's five miles of sand and dunes. Parking £2.50.

Best walk: From Burnham Overy, follow the acorn signs along Norton Bank to Deepdale, along the raised dyke with views over the marshes and the sea.

Eats: Titchwell Manor (01485 210221) has a relaxed restaurant serving modern British cuisine. Look no further than the Cromer crab, poached pear salad and cucumber mascapone at £6.95. Evening main courses, £12-£17. The White Horse in Brancaster Staithe (01485 210262) has won a raft of awards. Seared loin of swordfish with vegetable tajine £12.75. For something cheaper, try the Red Lion in Stiffkey (01328 830552), which serves a good range of bar meals from £7.95 or light bites from £4.50.

Sunset: The look-out point at Kelling Heath Holiday Park, on the top of the Cromer ridge (highest point in Norfolk). It has a view across the village of Kelling, and out to sea.

Sundowner: The upper terrace of the White Horse in Brancaster Staithe, with the sun setting over the marshes.

Accommodation: Titchwell Manor at Titchwell (01485 210221, titchwell manor.co.uk) is a comfortable, well maintained, contemporary hotel in a Victorian wrapping. From £35pp per night B&B. The White Horse in Brancaster Staithe (01485 210262, whitehorsebrancaster.co.uk). From £48pp B&B.

Don't miss: RSPB National Nature Reserve at Titchfield (01485 210779, rspb.org.uk). £3 car parking. Take a boat out or have a sailing lesson with Sailcraft Sea School at Brancaster Staithe (01485 210236, sailcraft.co.uk). Crabbing on Blakeney Quay - bait and lines available on site. The North Norfolk Poppy Line steam railway from Sheringham (01263 820800, nnrailway.co.uk), adult £8, family of four £23.
