First Impressions: Grand 17th-century, ivy-clad manor house with gravel drive and manicured gardens. Inside, the guests are all wearing dressing gowns and towelling slippers. Grayshott is not a hotel, you see, it's a health and fitness retreat.
What are the rooms like? Small, warm and a tad chintzy. Most rooms are in a modern wing.
The bed test: What with all the beauty treatments, massages, aqua-aerobics, yoga, hydro-baths, saunas and gym sessions, they could put you on a plank of wood and you'd still have the best night's sleep in years.
The bathroom test: Clean and bright in Italian blue and white tiles. Power shower, no bath. Molton Brown products in abundance. Well-lit magnifying mirror perfect for examining your new and rosier complexion.
The restaurant: If you want to lose pounds, head for the calorie-counted Light Diet Room. If you're happy with your waistline, it's the main dining room for you where the key words are healthy and organic.
The bar: Are you kidding? This is an alcohol-free zone.
What is there to see within walking distance? Well, you could go on one of the organised power walks over the National Trust heathland but with a nine-hole golf course, indoor tennis courts, swimming pool and gym, the idea is that you don't leave during your stay.
How much a night? Minimum two-night stay starts from £160pp a night and includes a health check, 40-minute daily massage, body exfoliation, sporting facilities, aerobic/yoga classes and all meals. Beauty/holistic treatments cost extra and it's wise to book in advance.
