The rules
From tomorrow, the restrictions at UK airports banning liquids from your hand luggage will be lifted. Passengers will be able to carry liquids in 100ml containers through security checks, but they must be placed in a transparent resealable bag.
The hotel
Fashion designer Todd Oldham is to launch a new luxury boutique hotel in Miami in conjunction with top chef Tony Mantuano of Chicago's Spiaggia restaurant. The Fairfax, in South Beach, will open next autumn and those with the cash can buy fractional ownership of one of the 53 suites. The decor will be inspired by the Amalfi Coast with honey and blue colours.
The tour operator
A new Italy specialist says its small group tours to Florence, Rome and the Roman Campagna feature places and experiences most tourists won't find. White Hat Tours (020 7771 2681; www.whitehattours.com) uses insider knowledge to organise private viewings at museums and private dining at the best Italian family homes. From £720 for five days from March.
The ski trip
If you're the one who always gets lumbered with fixing up your group ski holiday, you'll know how annoying it can be chasing payments from your so-called mates. As a solution, Meriski (01285 648518; www.effortlessmeriski.co.uk) has launched a new 'PA service' and will email all your party members about the location and dates of your holiday, and what they have to pay.
The challenge
In the opening scene of Goldeneye, James Bond does a bungee jump from the edge of a huge dam in Switzerland, which was recently voted the top film stunt of all time by Sky Movies. It's now possible to recreate that stunt and bungee jump 220m from the Verzasca Dam on the Swiss/Italian border, with Black Tomato (020 7610 9008; www.blacktomato.co.uk). The experience forms part of a weekend near Lake Locarno including caving, biking, abseiling and canyoning, for £499 per person including flights.
The gap year
Gaps For Grumpies (0845 121 1996; www.gapsforgrumpies.com) is a new volunteer organisation offering community placements in Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Peru and Fiji for the over-40s, from £600 per person, and you can stay on to relax, go on safari or have your own adventures at the end.
The day out
Roxy, the surf and board clothing brand for girls, is hosting free learn to ski and board days to encourage girls over the age of 14 to get interested in snow sports, throughout Europe this season. The first are at Milton Keynes Snowdome on 16 and 17 December. See www.ripcurl.com.
The website
Selecting your own diamonds from a mine in South Africa, spending a night listening to Aboriginal storytelling in a rainforest and working on a New Zealand sheep farm are some of the unusual experiences now available from the new website www.isango.com.
