Getting there
Photographer Karoki Lewis and documentary maker Jamie Berry travelled to Lalibela courtesy of Dinknesh Ethiopia Tour and flew with Bmed.
KLM, Lufthansa, Virgin Atlantic and Emirates all fly to Lalibela from London airports - however flights are not cheap and will set you back about £1500rtn.
A cheaper way to go is to fly to Addis Ababa and take an internal flight to Lalibela. Several airlines including Ethiopian Airlines, British Airways, Lufthansa and Emirates fly from London to Addis Ababa.
Ethiopian Airlines currently have flights from £396.50, including taxes, though prices rise during peak season.
Ethiopian Airlines fly once daily from Addis Ababa to Lalibela. Prices start at £127.40rtn including taxes.

When to visit
To see the Timkat festivities, you should visit in late January. Festivities begin in the third week of January, the day before Epiphany. In the Julian calendar Epiphany falls on January 19 and the following day is the feast of St Michael the Archangel.
