The threat of a strike by thousands of London Underground workers heightened yesterday when members of the Rail Maritime and Transport union voted
by 2,271 to 705 in favour of walkouts. The turnout in the ballot was almost 50%, said the union.
The two sides are locked in a dispute after LU offered a three-year deal
which was rejected by RMT negotiators.
The union executive is meeting to consider the result of the ballot and decide
whether to name strike dates.
Leaders of the drivers’ union, Aslef, have decided to recommend acceptance of the offer.
