Caravanning ‘is most popular UK holiday’

The Carry on Camping reputation no longer applies, says the Caravan Club

Caravanning is the most popular type of paid-for holiday in Britain, says the Caravan Club. Yesterday the club said 17% of all spending on UK holidays was attributable to caravanning. In 2005, about 8,800 motor homes were registered; last year this rose to 10,000. The club said interest in this type of holiday by the foreign secretary, Margaret Beckett, and stars such as Jay Kay, of Jamiroquai, was helping. "Caravanning is no longer Carry on Camping, bad cabarets and tin boxes on wheels," said Sam North, manager of the Caravan and Motorhome Show, opening on Thursday in Manchester.
