We visited Lipari a couple of weeks ago without booking accommodation or ferries ahead and had no trouble with either. On arrival, we accepted the first offer from a woman at the quayside. The room was clean with fridge, air conditioning and bathroom for €50 - the price goes down the longer you stay. On wandering around the town, there seemed to be plenty of rooms available in a similar or lower price range.
