Breckenridge boost

The resort of Breckenridge, Colorado, a long-term favourite with British skiers, is planning to expand its ski area and build a new gondola, linking the valley floor to the Peak 8 base area. The new development will open up 165 acres of new skiing, consisting mainly of easy and intermediate terrain through the trees on the lower slopes of Peak 7, and will also create a new ski run back down into the town. Some parts of the development will be in place for the 2001/2002 ski season.

Cruise roadshow

The Cruise Holiday Show will be at Stansted on October 8 Brighton (Oct 15) and Manchester (Oct 22). Representatives from 16 cruise lines will be giving presentations and advice as well as taking bookings. Tickets cost £5 on the door or by calling 020-7436 2449.

The Which? Hotel Guide 2001 is now out and can be ordered on freephone 0800 252100, at www.which.net or bought from bookshops for £15.99. Mature Earthwatch

The Earthwatch Millennium Awards, a scheme organised by environmental charity Earthwatch, is inviting people aged 50 and over to apply for two-week placements on its international research projects. The charity has 140 field projects, such as tracking the elusive puma of Idaho's Albion Mountains. Flights, accommodation, food, inoculations and visas for successful applicants are funded by the scheme.
