Are some flights … more likely to be delayed than others?

A recent report from the Civil Aviation Authority showed that delays (classed as any flight arriving more than 15 minutes late) were most common on flights to Nice, Athens, New York (JFK and Newark) and Mumbai, which all had on-time performances of less than 60 per cent. Charter flights to Tenerife, meanwhile, had the best punctuality record - with an impressive 75 per cent landing early or on time. As a rule, charter flights are more likely to be delayed than scheduled flights, but it's a close call. In terms of departure points, in April to June 2006, the worst airports to leave from were Luton and Stansted, where punctualilty fell by 13 percentage points and 11 percentage points respectively compared with the same three months in 2005.
