Ulla Stede wants to take her motorhome to the French Alps this winter for a skiing holiday. She asked for details of campsites that are open all year with good access to the slopes.
• Many resorts have campsites open in winter (Caravaneige). Try Morzine (Les Portes Soleils) with two sites, one at the end of Morzine, the other in the next viilage down the valley. You can also camp for free in the car park (near the Gendarmerie and supermarket) in the centre of Morzine.
Make sure your vehicle has maximum antifreeze and is well insulated. Take an extra electric heater for campsite use. Two years ago, just before Xmas, the temperature dropped to -28C and stayed below -8C for over a week. Make sure tyres are in good nick, and take snow chains (you may not be allowed on some roads without them).

• We unfortunately omitted the last part of last week's letter from Gerry Bates on the subject of electronic mosquito deterrents. He said it had worked well but added that this was only "until the controversy over the device's efficacy arose. After that, it didn't work at all."
Rather than wishing to give an unconditional endorsement of the device, he now thinks that it only appeared to work because he believed that it did so - a placebo effect.
This week's question
Roy Lane wants to travel to North Korea. It it possible? How easy is it to obtain a visa? Would he have to travel with an organised group? How expensive is it?
