Letters: I cannot agree more with Jackie Ashley (Comment, September 1) that it's time holidaying in Britain was made more attractive to British tourists. Clearly, it makes sense to spend more money on developing tourism at home than on furthering air travel abroad.

But please do not patronise those who work hard to further tourism in the West Highlands of Scotland. Indeed there are many good restaurants, shops and cafes that are thriving in Plockton, Gairloch and elsewhere in the area. They are there to serve the enlightened tourist who is looking for beautiful scenery, the last true wilderness areas in the British Isles, amazing sea life, delicious food and almost empty beaches.
