I am going to be on holiday during some of the World Cup but I have checked with the hotel and my room will at least have a television in it at the end of the bed. Anything else I should be eyeing up for my trip?
How about a pair of JC Optics' TV Spectacles, better known as "bed specs". These glasses are fitted with small, mirrored prisms for each eye. Wear 'em and weep with joy as you are able to lie flat on your back in bed while still catching essential viewing.
Do they work?
Yes, surprisingly well. The reflected image of the screen is even big enough to let you read some subtitles. The frames, in fetching tortoiseshell, are solid and comfortable. Watching a film with these is almost on a par with viewing DVDs on the move with ultra-trendy Olympus Eye Trek goggles, but several hundred quid cheaper. Bed specs might also be invaluable for hospital patients who want to read a book or eat their food but find it uncomfortable or perhaps impossible to look down.
How much?
Bed specs cost £29.99, plus p&p, from Innovations (0870 908 7002).
