Linnea Glynne-Rule wanted to know if she could get a cargo boat to New York.

My daughter travelled on a container ship from Thamesport to Montreal and back with Canada Maritime, booked through Strand Voyages. She had a wonderful time. There are passages to New York from Thamesport available through Strand Voyages and also The Cruise People. Good sailing

• Strand Voyages (020-7836 6363) is the booking agent for various companies that run cargo boats. Ships to New York and Norfolk, Virginia, are full for the next few months. Montreal costs £995pp one way, for a 10-day journey via Antwerp and Le Havre. The Cruise People (020-7723 2450) has spaces to Staten Island from Thamesport costing approximately £1,125pp in a double cabin. The boat can be picked up in Le Havre.

This week's question

We are considering travelling to Thailand in the first two weeks of October for our honeymoon. Will the weather be okay? Our plans are to fly into Bangkok and then travel onto Chang-Mai and Ko Samui. Any info?
