Another newcomer?
No - ebookers has been around for a long time; before a reincarnation in September last year, it was called flightbookers.com. It claims to have been the first ever interactive travel booking site when it originally launched in 1996. Until quite recently, though, it could be painfully slow.
No signs of ageing?
On the contrary, it's actually speeded up as it's got older. ebookers has some exciting little features that will intrigue fans of text messaging (SMS) on mobile phones. The Flight Watch service sends regular SMS messages updating you on the status of a particular flight. At the moment this service is only available on certain major airlines, but as a charter from Malaga is unlikely to be on time anyway this is not a major oversight.
I assume you can book flights, too?
The booking procedure is unusually intelligent. (Mysteriously, however, its own "negotiated" fares can be higher than the public fare.) Visitors will find a familiar flight search, but can also try an idea pioneered in the US a couple of years ago, but which has been slow to catch on here: a 24-hour Bid & Go service. This allows you to set your own maximum price for an international return flight and leave your credit card details with the site. ebookers then tries to find an airline that will accept it, and book immediately on your behalf. Unfortunately, the service only applies to adult fares.
What's missing?
ebookers needs a bigger selection of hotels, although those it does feature are of a high quality.
