Some resorts, even high ones in France, are doing poorly. Conditions are often better in Switzerland and Italy. North America is enjoying the last few weeks.
Andorra: Arinsal 60cm on lower slopes and 100cm higher up, Pas de la Casa (65/95cm), and Soldeu (50/110cm). Warm temperatures playing havoc.
Austria: Heavy snow in St Anton (55/350cm) improved conditions on higher pistes. Mayrhofen (0/170cm) had some welcome snowfalls, then colder clear days. Kitzbühel (0/107cm) warm.
Bulgaria: Only optimists should head for Borovets (0/25cm) and Pamporovo (2/10cm), both with resort runs closed and other pistes rocky.
Canada: Ever popular Whistler (115/185cm) basks in sunny, cool, perfect skiing weather.
France: In Courchevel (20/112) off-piste was described as 'powder on crud'. Meribel (45/130cm) pistes were described as wet and worn with ice turning to slush in warm weather. Conditions best in the highest Three Valleys resort Val Thorens (90/200cm).
Italy: Slopes here standing up well to warmer weather. The vast Dolomiti Superski area (25/300cm) had 1,220km of pistes and 460 lifts open. Cortina (30/250cm) had avalanche risks off-piste with deep powder. Cervinia (140/330cm) had great piste skiing.
Switzerland: More avalanche risks in Davos (75/190cm) and St Moritz (150/330cm) but excellent skiing too. Tried and tested Zermatt (70/270cm) was revelling in powder and sunny weather midweek.
USA: Conditions excellent if cold in Telluride, Colorado (120/150cm). Farther north in the state at Vail Resorts, which owns Vail (140/190cm), Breckenridge (130/ 175cm) and Keystone (155/165cm) among others, there has been a 62 per cent rise in revenues 'thanks to some of the best snowfalls for more than a decade'.
On the slopes: Oprah Winfrey regularly visits Telluride where, after first owning a modest home under a chairlift, she bought a sprawling $3m lodge.
Best skiing: Mayrhofen, seven nights all inclusive, by coach £199pp sharing, departing Saturday 24 March by air from Gatwick £249pp. Snowcoach (01727 833141).
