Grand ideas
Re-live the 18th-century Grand Tour this weekend at London's Chiswick House. An interpreter in period costume plays the then Lord Burlington, describing how he bought his collection during his travels around Europe.

Square dance
Those shady London square gardens, normally closed to most people, will be open tomorrow - with live jazz bands, classical music recitals, Punch and Judy shows and cream teas. A new square open this year is St George's Fields in Westminster - 2.5 acres of woodland including tree ferns just five minutes' walk from Marble Arch.

Name of the rose
Rose clinic evenings start this week at Hampshire's Mottisfont Abbey, a former 12th-century priory near Romsey whose walled garden is full of them.

Summer Tempest
