Which is?

Another online rail ticket agency. Travellers now have three to choose from: thetrainline.com, totaljourney.com and Qjump.co.uk, which is operated by National Express. The name comes from the retail director's claim that Britons spend 68 minutes queuing each day.

Isn't National Express a coach company?

Indeed it is. But it also owns several big train companies, including Central Trains, WAGN, ScotRail and Silverlink. When Virgin backed the trainline.com and FirstGroup and Railtrack set up total journey.com, National Express decided it wanted to join in, too.

So what's the difference between them?

Very little, really. Qjump's chief selling point is its slightly faster database - although all these sites claim to have a better system than their rivals - and the odd special offer. If you're the kind of person who gets excited about two-for-one discounts on hotel breaks, you might prefer Qjump, but there is little to choose between the sites in terms of efficiency.

What about prices?

These ticket agencies don't operate like other travel organisations: the train companies set their own rates, so don't expect cut-price tickets. If you are looking for discounts, nationalrail.co.uk/promotions/fs_promos.htm has an extremely useful round-up of the hundreds of current special offers and ticket promotions, together with their terms and conditions.
