While some may hesitate to take to the air right now, passengers who do wish to travel to Europe this autumn can pick up even cheaper flights this week as low-cost airlines compete to reduce fares.
Buzz have dropped prices to £19 one-way on destinations including Paris and Dusseldorf, for online bookings made from 8am on Thursday to midnight on Saturday. In a move that should alleviate the frustration often experienced by the bargain-hunter, Buzz promise that, while some flights are excluded, on 75% of their schedule all seats will be available at the promotional fare.
EasyJet are offering seats one-way for as little as £10 between Belfast and Edinburgh this autumn. There are good promotional fares for flights in November and December, but all are limited availability. Today we found London-Barcelona for just £32.50 return in late November.
For a limited period, British Airways is offering return flights to many European destinations at under £69 - plus you can take a child free for every adult ticket you buy. Destinations include Amsterdam and Stockholm. You can save a further £5 by booking online at britishairways.com
Ryanair's list of exclusions to their advertised bargains makes complicated reading. However, if you book ahead and fly midweek you can find some attractive fares: London to Venice for just £32 including tax, for example.
Go's best offer comes with the launch of their Stansted-Newcastle service. You can travel from the north-east to London for as little as £10 one way.
As usual, the best promotional fares are either unavailable or quickly sold out for the weekends, but good deals remain for midweek travel.

· For those wishing to travel in style to Manhattan, British Airways is relaunching its Concorde service between Heathrow and New York November 7. To coincide with the relaunch, Bon Voyage (0800 316 0194) is offering a five-night luxury breaks for £3,995, including return Concorde flights from Heathrow, airport transfers by stretch limousine, accommodation at the five-star Grand Hyatt Hotel on Park Avenue and a ticket to a top Broadway show. You must book between October 22 and 28, but the offer is available until January 31 2002. The trip must include a Saturday night stay in New York.
