I find long-haul flights can be a pain in the neck as I can never get comfortable enough to sleep. What does the sleep doctor suggest?
The Tempur Transit Neck Pillow is a serious sledgehammer with which to crack the nut of getting a good night's sleep on the move. Horseshoe-shaped, it is made from a synthetic material which moulds to your neck and head and is even Nasa approved.
Did you say Nasa?
Yes. Nasa developed the "unique pressure-relieving material", from which the pillow is made, for their astronauts on the space programme. These chaps faced some of the longest-haul flights known to man -to space and back. The material was used to help astronauts cope with the enormous G-forces experienced at take-off and landing.
But how will this marvel of modern science help me?
The pillow material is rather like a very thick and heavy sponge, which holds the shape of indentations for a long time. So the pillow cradles and supports the neck, allowing shoulder muscles to relax better. The density of the synthetic pillow means it also reduces the judders of a plane ordinarily "transmitted" through regular pillows.
Any drawbacks?
The pillow is bulky. It is also weighty - 664g - although, of course, this is not such a problem if your next trip is in zero gravity.
How much?
The Tempur Transit Pillow costs £39.99 from Tempur (for orders, call 0800 616135).
