· I can thoroughly recommend the Hotel Terminus, directly opposite the railway station in Cahors. Do not be put off by the location, it is peaceful, beautifully decorated in Art Deco style and the restaurant, La Balandre, is nothing short of superb (check out its own website). Not only is the menu great (a gourmet experience) but the wine cellar is justifiably renowned throughout the region as one of the best.
The price of rooms is reasonable, but take care in the restaurant as it is easy to go mad!

· We stayed at the Hotel Terminus in March this year and found it lovely! Cahors is in a loop of the Lot river, and subsequently you are either "in town" or outside!. Hotel Terminus is opposite the railway station, and is a modern hotel within a late 19th-century builidng. I understand that the restaurant was awared a Michelin star last year, though being central there are plenty of other places to eat within easy walking distance.The room we had was very spacioous, and as is the norm for French hotels very reasonably priced. The staff were absolutely charming.

A very comfortable hotel on the banks of the river Lot. Ask for a room with a balcony and views over the Lot. Very pleasant restaurant or only 5 mins' walk from the busy town centre.

· It depends what one means by "good". My wife and I are cycle tourists and on two separate occasions have been very satisfied at the Hotel Melchior [05 65 35 03 38] opposite, but not too close to, the railway station. Relatively cheap en suite and a plain restaurant.
The Rough Guide recommends the Hotel Terminus nearby with its distinctly up-market restaurant. Both too expensive for us touring on a budget.

· Drive-Alive Holidays offers the Hotel de France, about 700 metres from the central square in Cahors, and just down the road from the beautiful and ancient Pont de Valentre. The hotel is a somewhat characterless modern building, but with comfortable rooms and friendly service. Drive-Alive offers self-drive holidays, so you'll need to include a ferry crossing to take advantage of their online booking service.
