Russian warning

Visitors to Russia are warned to be vigilant following last week's bombing in central Moscow which left six dead. The Foreign Office (0870 606 0290) continues to advise people not to travel to Chechyna, Ingushetia, Dagestan, north Ossetia, Karachai-Cherkessia, Kabardino-Balkaria (including the Elbrus area) and to the eastern and southern parts of Stavropol Krai.

Maltese falcon

Air Malta (0845 345 6045) is launching a no-frills service from the UK. Relax in pretty little bays or soak up history and culture in the quaint towns. From 1 April, the 'Fare 4U' service will fly from Stansted three times a week, and one-way prices start at £49.80 including tax.

Bloody Christmas

If you're coming over all bah humbug, why not head for Transylvania this Christmas. Exodus (0870 240 5550) is offering trips to Romania's hills and forests, where you can forget Rudolph and look for wolves, bears, wild boar and lynx. Visit Dracula's Castle and go sightseeing in Bucharest. The trip costs £789 per person including a return flight from Heathrow to Bucharest, guesthouse accommodation, most meals and transfers. Departs 20 December.

Spanish fly

More Britons are opting for Spain over France for the first time in 10 years, according to the Office of National Statistics. Spain attracted 12.5 million visitors last year, about half a million more than its Gallic neighbour.
